The barren trees are standing tall and proud
Warm winter breeze caressing all around.
The waterfowl and gulls broadcast their sounds
That carry 'cross the lake both clear and loud.
The shrinking ice rides calmly on the waves
Retreating slowly from the morning sun.
The fractal patterns' melting has begun
Cold water vying for the warmth it craves.
This balmy interlude 'midst winter's chill
A welcome respite for me and my stroll.
Twice 'round the lake for me today a thrill
Postponed five weeks, for me to wait until
The weather deigned to suit my weary soul
My Sabbath walks I could again fulfill.
